Bourton Manor Hotel, near Telford, Shropshire, B&B from £65 per person,- dogs stay free. Dogs can sleep in the owners’ rooms, but are not allowed in the public rooms of the hotel.

N E England

White Horse. Farm Hotel, near Pickering, North Yorkshire, B&B from £37.50 per person, dogs stay free. The hotel is within a minute’s walk of open moorland, and has 12 acres of grounds. The owners have four Flat Coated Retrievers. Telephone: 01751417239.

Ness, Nr Helmsley & Pickering, North Yorkshire.  Rye Cottage Granary. Self catering.  This small but very well equipped for 4 'cottage' is just outside the National Park.  The owners who live in the cottage next door welcome dogs and have their own GR.  Handy fields for that early morning or late night necessity.  This one comes with Captain's seal of approval. East Anglia

West Country

Hunters’ Inn, Parracombe, North Devon, B&B from £35 per person, a one-off charge of -£10 for dogs. There are four acres of gardens where your dogs can meet the owners’ four Labradors. The hotel runs Dog Behaviour weekends in the autumn.

Portlight Hotel, Malborough, South Devon, B&B from £20 per person, dogs stay free. Plenty of good, leg-stretching walks nearby, dogs allowed on the local beaches.

Redcove, Mawgan Forth near Newquay.  www.redcove.co.uk   Kath Jordan (a Puppy Walker) writes as follows: "dog-friendly self contained annex to the owners bungalow. It is self catering, clean, warm and with lovely views of the dog friendly beach. A walk down the cliff path takes you right on to the sand, but best to walk down the road for sight impaired guests." 
"The 2 pubs are happy to welcome dogs and the bus company lets us ride on the bus to Newquay."

Maimar Hotel, near Newquay, Cornwall, B&B from £26 per person, dogs stay free. There is a dog-friendly beach just 10 minutes’ walk away. Dogs have free run of the hotel and grounds, except the dining room at meal times.

It should therefore be pretty good.  The web site makes it very obvious dogs are definitely welcome.

Wales

Colwyn Guest House, Beddgelert, Gwyndd. B&B from -f1 9 per person, dogs stay free. There are only four rooms, the service is very personal, and dogs can be left alone in bedrooms.

a beautiful little spot. great for hills and trains. Dogs welcome. Food is fantastic home grown, home cooking. Stayed there twice now with up to 2 dogs - no problem, no charge for dogs.

 

Ireland - 

Carberry Cottage Guest Lodge (right)

Situated on the beautiful Sheepshead Peninsula overlooking Dumanus Bay and the Mizen in South West Ireland.  Open all year.  2 acres of gardens with areas for dogs who are also welcome in the house and rooms.  Full breakfasts are available at any time during the morning, packed lunches and evening meals can be arranged.Full Seafood dinners are a specialty. Most products are local and organic.

Ireland - self catering

Pier Cottage, West Cove on the Kerry Ring.  This well appointed cottage is really away from it all except the Kerry Ring coaches!  Its ideal for swimming dogs.  Contact 01420 22063.  £260 a week mid season in 2001

This is a modern one bedroom cottage in the grounds of Borde Failte and les Routiers approved Carbery Cottage Guest Lodge. Access to 2 acres of gardens, runs & kennels available for free exercise of dogs. Dogs permitted in the apartment.

And don’t forget, there is a book, PETS WELCOME! FHG publications, £4.95, which lists dog-friendly pubs in Britain which allow dogs in at mealtimes and those establishments which display a golden bowl also offer accommodation.
